Meet the LISOF fashion show 2019 judges: Dean, Jacques and YOU!

Every year LISOF outsources judges to select winners for the Best 3rd Year Ranges. The 1st and 2nd year collections have always been judged internally. And this year we will be recruiting YOU to help us select a winning team for the Best Higher Certificate ensemble.

Higher Certificate Fashion students worked in teams to create their designs according to a brief. Student work was showcased at the LISOF 25th annual fashion show, Saturday, 30th December 2019. Stay tuned to the LISOF Instagram page @lisof_fashion for judging details.

Dean Hauptfleisch, LISOF Best 3rd Year Range: Avant Garde category, SAFW Student Competition Winner 2013 and SAFW New Talent Search Winner 2015 as well as Jacques Bam, newly graduated LISOF BA Hons Alum, make for top class judges as they understand exactly what each student pours into their graduation collection and both have deep end fashion industry experience.

I’m a LISOF Alumni that graduated from LISOF in 2014, I lectured at LISOF in 2015 and I’m currently living in Durban and working at MrP’s head office as a Ladieswear Trend Forecaster. I am actively involved in our trend-led, in-house designed brand called “PROJECT” and our young designer ranges called  “mrp + CREATIVE COLLABS”.

“In the highly competitive fashion industry, stand out for being YOU, never stop learning and bettering your craft.”

Designing since the age of 9, Jacques has always known that he wanted to be a part of the fashion industry. Enrolling to study at LISOF during 2015, Jacques started working as an assistant stylist to Kyle Boshoff, with work featured in various online editorial publications. He went on to complete his degree cum laude during 2017, with his graduate collection entitled ‘Hedonism’, placing as a finalist for best graduate collection and receiving an honourary mention from LISOF CEO and founder, Shana Rosenthal, for outstanding work.  The collection went on to be shown at the Design Indaba Simulcast during 2018. The same year Jacques was selected to star alongside the collection in the Ford Figo ‘Ka Mzolo’ music video and campaign, a project which brought together rising talents from various creative industries to star alongside their work and the new Ford Figo. During 2018 Jacques also went on to complete his Honours degree, cum laude, interning with acclaimed costume designer Pierre Viennings. The same year Jacques was also selected as the winner of the SAFW student design competition. Jacques has also collaborated with Mr. Price on a limited edition capsule range entitled ‘BAM x MRP’ which launched in April 2019, selling in selected stores and online across South Africa. During 2019 Jacques also completed internships with established South African brands ERRE and Isabel De Villiers. Recently, Jacques has also been selected as a finalist for the SA Fashion Week New Talent search, showcasing his collection entitled ‘Pluraslism’, at SAFW AW 20. Jacques has also been invited to show the collection at Mozambique Fashion Week during 4-7 December 2019.

“Do not jump into the fashion industry blindly. Go out and learn from the best, before trying to be the best.”
